What will this "transgender policy" do?

This policy would require schools to permit students to use the bathroom that "aligns with their gender identity" (not their biological reality), force teachers and students to use a student's preferred name and pronoun (e.g., calling a girl "him" if she wants to be referred to in that way), and bar schools from "separating students by gender for no good reason."

These policies, aside from defying common sense, create serious violations of ALL students' basic privacy, safety and dignity rights.

The privacy and safety of a female student is not protected when she is forced to share a bathroom with a male student who identifies as female, just as a female student who identifies as male and shares a bathroom with biological males is not protected.

Schools can accommodate the different needs of a small number of children without violating the rights of ALL children.

Need some talking points to help you voice your concern?

  • Bottom Line:  A school's primary duty is to protect the physical safety, privacy and dignity rights of every student.

  • And, every student has a right ot privacy and safety. There is no legal mandate to demand every child in the district give up these rights when some students identify as a gender that does not match their biological gender.

  • Schools can accommodate a small number of students with different needs without compromising the rights of other children and their parents.

  • Forcing children to share restrooms, showers, and even hotel rooms with the opposite sex is a radical invasion of privacy for children who deserve to feel safe in intimate settings and away from home.

  • This policy violates the privacy and safety rights of ALL students, both transgender students and non-transgender students.

Can't possibly attend tonight's meeting?

The "transgender policy" will be read at two other Board meetings on February 17th and March 17th. Please be sure to attend those!
